In an announcement that has been long awaited by rock fans, Mark Lanegan will perform a series of shows across Australia and New Zealand for The Frontier Touring Company. The July shows with be his first solo tour since 2004, sharing with us an array of his impressive and extensive back catalogue.

With a musical career spawning from the early Seattle ‘grunge’ days, Mark Lanegan is a creature of undying integrity and an ever existing nuance. He has been noted as a poetic misfit whose lyrics remain forever etched in your memory long past first hearing them.

Lanegan was co-founder and lead vocalist of mid-eighties grunge heavyweights Screaming Trees, a band in cohorts with artists such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.

Lanegan’s career with the Screaming Trees has earned him endearing respect and praise but his solo ventures and collaborations with artists since then are equally as notable.

Throughout the nineties and after the demise of Screaming Trees, Mark Lanegan worked solidly on his solo efforts, first with glorious debut The Winding Sheet which featured a haunting version of Leadbelly’s ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night?’ as well as ‘Down In The Dark,’ in which Kurt Cobain supplied backing vocals.

His most recent solo album, Bubblegum, was certified a critical achievement and featured contributions from P J Harvey, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri, Dean Ween of Ween and Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin. Bubblegum is Lanegan’s most commercial album to date and reached #39 on Billboards Top Independent Album chart.

His distinctive voice hones a rare musical depth that invokes emotion, understanding and sympathy from his listeners. After being invited to sing some lead and backing vocals on the Queens Of The Stone Age album Rated R, Lanegan became a permanent member of the band for albums Songs For The Deaf through to their 2005 release Lullabies To Paralyze before returning to his solo projects.

Mark Lanegan certainly is a man of many talents and with shows scheduled in a series of intimate environments, here’s your chance to get up close and personal with one of grunge rock’s finest. Frontier Members’ pre-sale available from Wednesday 19 May at 12 noon AEST. General public on-sale from Friday 21 May at 9am local time.
