In 2004 Green Day unleashed American Idiot on the world. A boundary smashing, genre confounding work of art, American Idiot changed the face of music, welcoming a new generation of music fans to the cult of Green Day.

In 2009 Green Day returned to stamp their authority on the music world releasing 21st Century Breakdown. Hailed as the jewel in an already impressive crown, 21st Century Breakdown has confirmed Green Day’s status as one of the greatest rock bands in the world.

It’s with great pleasure The Frontier Touring Company announces Green Day’s return to Australia and New Zealand as part of their 21st Century Breakdown World Tour. This will be Green Day’s first visit since 2005’s explosive stadium and arena spectaculars.

If past tours are anything to go by, fans are sure to be thrilled as Green Day take to arena stages in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland this December.

The release of 21st Century Breakdown signaled the end of a five year silence from Green Day. Breaking the drought in resounding fashion, the album debuted at #1 in over 14 countries. Australia and New Zealand’s love affair with Green Day has been reignited, with 21st Century Breakdown already being certified platinum in both countries.

Critics have responded to the album just as strongly as the fans:

“21st Century Breakdown is even better, so masterful and confident it makes Idiot seem like a warm-up.” – Rolling Stone

“The band manages to have 21st Century Breakdown work on a grand scale without losing either their punk or pop roots, which makes the album not only a sequel to "American Idiot," but its equal.” – All Music Guide

“The album is a call to arms for the digital age, and 20 years into its career, Green Day's ambition continues to dazzle.” – Billboard

“Breakdown brims with a type of self-confidence the band never before expressed on tape” – Alternative Press

The studio isn’t the only place Green Day continue to shine, however, proving their ability to blow live audiences away night after night through their 20 year career. In 2005 Green Day played major cities across Australia and New Zealand to a chorus of rave reviews;

“Green Day’s concert at the Sydney Cricket Ground was never going to be anything less than massive” – Sun Herald

“With a show and sound that was electrifying, it is no wonder Green Day are, next to U2, the biggest rock band on the planet.” – The Daily Telegraph

“Green Day have the chance to make rock ‘n’ roll feel important again to a vast new audience.” – The Courier Mail

“Green Day’s renewed success proves there is justice in rock music.” – Herald Sun

“Green Day came, Green Day saw, Green Day conquered, in the process putting on one of, if not the, best shows Adelaide has ever seen.” – The Advertiser

There’s no doubt that Green Day will continue to amaze when they return in 2009. Their last arena shows Down Under sold out in a matter of minutes, and with a fiercely loyal fan base behind them, Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown Tour is sure to do the same.
