24-year-old Seattle-born, LA-based singer UMI – born Tierra Umi Wilson – truly embraces her Japanese-American heritage, pioneering a new sound rooted in neo soul and folk. Catapulted onto the global stage with the release of her 2018 track ‘Remember Me’, UMI continued her upward trajectory releasing multiple singles leading into her debut album ‘Introspection Reimagined’ which Vogue summarised as a “soundtrack that perfectly accompanies a yoga flow or mellow dinner at home”. Her 2022 debut studio album Forest in the City, revealed a mastery of soul-searching lyricism and genre-expansive fluidity for UMI, also receiving praise for LP “wish that i could be” for its blissful representation of queer relationships, something that is integral to UMI both as a person and within her artistry.

Known for her warmth and deep honesty that flows freely through her music, UMI uses her art as a vessel for healing. Her name “umi,” meaning ocean in Japanese, is a beautiful reflection of her artistry—soothing like a day spent in nature. Often using her social media platforms to engage with her fans further than the music, with guided meditation, mindfulness practice in her Full Moon YouTube series as well as Daily Affirmations via her website, UMI’s infectious loving and caring personality has earned her a legion of support from critics and fans.

“this new chapter shows an artist who will not be rushed—who’s ready to be seen because she’s done the heavy lifting.” - Pitchfork

“UMI drops all the self-affirming good vibes…in a room grounded in positive intentions.” - Grimy Goods

“Her ability to be present with her music was enhanced by the wellness rituals she’s practiced for the past several years.” - Vogue

After breaking out as an openhearted prodigy with her lush songs of self-discovery, she’s since expanded into social justice advocacy, wellness, and fashion—using all these creative endeavours as ways to connect with herself, with others, and our natural world. Often beginning her shows by taking the crowd through a guided-meditation, filling the room with pure loving energy and allowing her fans to truly engage with the experience, her ability to connect with her audiences on the live stage is an unmissable spectacle.

Previously supporting Conan Gray on tour and most recently Sam Smith and Jhene Aiko across the US – a career-defining moment for UMI who cites the likes of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill as her inspirations – the neo-soulful superstar is a game-changer on the stage.

UMI’s Australian debut will be a truly special moment, as fans experience her live presence for the first time when she graces the stage in Sydney and Melbourne next March. Don’t miss these incredible shows!
