James Hunter - Sydney 2009

Tue 14 Apr, 2009 The Vanguard, Sydney

James Hunter – the pop-soul maestro – will make his first trip to Australia this April in support of the critically acclaimed record The Hard Way (tour edition in store March 20 through Universal Music). Proudly presented by The Frontier Touring Company, James will perform his only headline show at The Vanguard in Sydney on April 14.

Drawing from the musical past, James’ infectious sound and inventive songwriting has set him apart from retrograde nostalgia, and has captured the attention of today’s audiences. The Hard Way demonstrates this perfectly, blending old with new, while creating a uniquely fresh sound.

The critics have succumbed to James Hunter resoundingly:

Rolling Stone: “All it took was 10 seconds of listening to ‘The Hard Way’, the title track from Brit soul man James Hunter’s third U.S. album, before we knew the disc was unbelievably awesome.”

Now Magazine: “If you thought no one made albums like this any more, they don’t, so enjoy ‘The Hard Way’.”

Variety: “Taking vocal cues from Sam Cooke and James Brown and wrapping them in the cozy warmth of deep saxophone sounds, James Hunter has revived the soul music of the early 1960s with ?lan and substance.”

James will visit Australia for the first time this April. With tickets limited, this show is sure to sell out. Don’t miss your chance to see one of 2009’s most promising stars.
