JPEGMAFIA, known affectionately by loyal fans as ‘Peggy’ makes his return to Australian stages this September. Known for being a leader in the underground, alternative rap scene, the experimental hip-hop artist has been busy, releasing his biggest album yet, SCARING THE HOES (released in Australia via AWAL, here) earlier this year. Entirely produced by JPEGMAFIA himself, the album served as a wholly collaborative project with fellow rapper Danny Brown, with the two alt-rap leaders currently on the road touring the album, co-headlining 20 shows in North America.

A fusion of rap, rock, jazz, high-energy electronic music and everything in between, SCARING THE HOES received critical acclaim and rave reviews from fans. JPEGMAFIA was soon thrust onto stages across the globe, recently performing festival sets at Primavera, Pitchfork Music Festival and Osheaga.

    “Hip-hop’s leading experimentalist” – NME

"A stunning expansion of his punk ethos – pushing his anti-establishment rhetoric to the brink, promoting a DIY ingenuity, embracing the counterculture – and yet another provocation" - The Guardian

"One of the most unique forces in rap today" – Boiler Room

Born to be a musician, JPEGMAFIA - Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks – began sampling and producing his own tracks at the age of 15. Discovering his blends and style of music, the rapper began making music under the JPEGMAFIA moniker in 2015, releasing a number of mixtapes before his debut studio album Black Ben Carson dropped in 2016. It wasn’t until his follow-up album, Veteran that JPEGMAFIA was well and truly noticed by the rap community. The release changed the trajectory of rap, giving a name to experimental rap, with the project having its own definition of the genre, playing with sounds and production techniques to create a completely unique body of work – something which led to the album receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Fader.

After touring with Vince Staples on his 2019 tour, JPEGMAFIA soon released his third studio album All Heroes Are Cornballs which became his first album to enter the commercial charts in the US and allowed the rapper to take the album on the road, touring across North America. Releasing a number of EPs, these ultimately led to release of 2022 project OFFLINE – a culmination of 2021’s LP! and LP! (Offline) – the rapper releasing one project on streaming services and one via Bandcamp, SoundCloud and YouTube.
