Illusive Presents and Frontier Touring are excited to announce California rapper, singer-songwriter and producer Earl Sweatshirt will make his long-awaited return to Australia and New Zealand in October 2023.

Almost a decade on from his last visit to Australia with 2013’s Earlwolf featuring Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt and New Zealand headline shows in 2015, the 29-year-old will kick off his headline tour on Monday 16 October at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, heading to Melbourne on Tuesday 17 October for a show at Northcote Theatre, then onto Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Thursday 19 October, before heading over to NZ for his final show of the tour at Auckland’s Powerstation on Saturday 21 October.

Earl will also be performing at this year’s Yours & Owls Festival in Wollongong, NSW on Sunday 15 October.

Beginning his music career at the age of 14, Earl Sweatshirt [born Thebe Neruda Kgositsile] began posting self-made tracks on SoundCloud under the moniker Sly Tendencies, before ultimately changing his name after being discovered by Tyler, The Creator and given the call up to join the globally-acclaimed rap collective, Odd Future.

The rapper released his debut mixtape Earl in 2010 at just 16 years old, to widespread recognition and praise from critics and fans. After a two-year hiatus, Earl released his debut studio album, Doris, produced alongside Odd Future, peaked at #23 on the ARIA Albums Chart and stands as one of his most iconic albums to date, with Pitchfork defining him as ‘skilled beyond his years’. Globally successful tracks such as ‘Chum’ and ‘Sunday’ (feat. Frank Ocean) catapulted a young Earl Sweatshirt into the spotlight as he was well and truly placed on the world stage as a gifted rapper, lyricist and producer.

‘Regardless of the subject, it’s still a marvel to hear Earl rap. His writing has only grown more concise and his sharp wit and varied delivery conjure detailed images.’ Pitchfork

‘Etched in rap as a quirky trailblazer…Earl Sweatshirt oozes nonchalant energy’ NME

As a rapper who started his career so young, Earl has been praised for staying culturally relevant and openly documenting his journey as he grows personally and professionally – something that brings him closer to his fans and what makes an Earl Sweatshirt show so special.

The rapper has a huge 2022 under his belt, including a number of festival sets across the US and performing a 15-date co-headline North American tour with fellow rapper Action Bronson. Earl also made 2022 the year he released his fourth studio album, SICK! (out now via Warner Music Australia, here) which Rolling Stone called ‘his most artistically rewarding album yet.’  Due to perform at Outbreak Festival’s main stage in Manchester (UK) this month, alongside Denzel Curry and fans already desperate for new music, the demand for Earl Sweatshirt is bigger than ever.
