Alex G (USA) announces return to Australia with headline tour this December24 Aug 2023
MG Live, I OH YOU & Frontier Touring are excited to announce US singer-songwriter, Alex G will make his long-awaited return down under for a series of headline shows this December. With the pandemic postponing his last planned visit in 2020, fans will be thrilled to welcome him back to Australia in 2023.
Alex will kick of his Australian tour on Tuesday 5 December at the Rosemount Hotel in Perth, followed by a night in Melbourne on Thursday 7 December at the Forum. Also performing at Meredith Music Festival on Friday 8 December, Alex will resume the tour at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Saturday 9 December before his last show at The Triffid, Brisbane on Sunday 10 December.
Alex G is the stage alias of Alex Giannascoli, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who built his reputation with intimate lo-fi pop that combines strong melodic sensibilities with a ragged, impulsive-sounding performance style. As a teenager, Giannascoli, a Pennsylvania native, wrote and recorded music in his bedroom. He released his home-recorded label debut, DSU, in 2014 via Orchid Tapes. The U.K. label Lucky Number mastered and released a couple of Alex G's earlier DIY albums, Trick and Rules, in the spring of 2015, and he signed with Domino Records for his DSU follow-up, Beach Music, issued in October that year.
Beach Music and its 2017 follow-up Rocket landed on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, with 2019’s House of Sugar, saw him debut on Billboard’s Emerging Artists, Top Alternative Albums, and Independent Albums charts. House of Sugar was named one of the best albums of 2019 by GQ, Esquire, Pitchfork, The Guardian, Stereogum, and Noisey, among others. Post release The Fader has dubbed him “America’s greatest living songwriter.”
Alex G released his ninth studio album God Save the Animals in 2022 to praise from critics across the board, who hailed it as “a tour de force” (Rolling Stone) and “his most thrilling and playful record yet” (Vanity Fair). He followed the album’s release with an entirely sold out headlining tour across North America; gave high profile national TV performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon & The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and made his debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.
‘Alex Giannascoli’s most hopeful record stands out for its grounded patience and moments of sharp lyrical simplicity’ - Pitchfork
‘This is the 29-year-old’s ninth album, and it finds him more ambitious, strange and embedded in studio experimentation than before’ – ★★★★ The Guardian
