Anabelle Kay

MELB, SYD & BRIS ONLY

Cashion, Oklahoma (population 832) isn’t the first place you’d associate with the musical awakening of one of Australia’s rising stars. However, despite the somewhat unorthodox musical birth, in a place most people have often only attributed to two types of music -  country and western – Kay finds herself receiving plaudits from the music industry and fans alike. Similarities to seminal artists such as Joan Baez, Gillian Welch, Karen Dalton and Laura Marling are bandied around, and in picking up play on Triple J, FBi, 2SER, Double J, ABC 702 and PBS, while also soundtracking TV programs such as Home & Away, Neighbours, and Winners & Losers she’s been picking up fans at a rapid pace. Read more.

DEBUT AUSTRALIAN PERFORMANCES ANNOUNCED FOR MARCH 2017

With Special Guest Anabelle Kay

Frontier Touring is excited to announce that UK artist Roo Panes will make his Australian debut this March; performing solo headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane alongside performances at Adelaide Fringe Festival and Port Fairy Folk Festival.

Panes’ songwriting is filled with influences from his native Wimborne, surrounded by the natural beauty of Dorset’s open spaces and those of the UK’s stunning Lake District.

While his classically-trained pianist grandmother eased him into the musical world, it was combining his talent for poetry with melody that saw Panes develop his own organic, honest and soulful sound. In just over two years, this sound has seen Panes rack up more than 90 million plays on Spotify and over a million YouTube views.

Panes first came to attention with his series of Burberry Acoustic performances, which coincided with his modelling campaign for the renowned international brand. Debut album Little Giant followed to critical acclaim, seeing Panes form an alliance with producer Rupert Coulson (Mika, Julia Stone, Oasis) that continued for sophomore release Paperweights.

In latest release Paperweights (out now via CRC Music), Panes explores the notion of ‘freedom, risk, vulnerability, moving on and letting go, lifting the paperweight’. Lush harmonies, Panes’ 12-stringed guitar, cellos and mandolins punctuate the peaceful mood of the album, highlighted in songs like ‘Stay With Me’, ‘The Original’, ‘Lullaby Love’ and title track ‘Paperweights’.

‘A beautiful more matured sound without sacrificing the purity’ – Never Enough Notes

‘His voice marks the universal truths and observations of a generation, delivered with vitality that blossoms at the touch.’ – Bitter Sweet Symphonies

Supporting Panes on his solo East Coast shows is Australian-born, worldly gypsy Anabelle Kay. Finding her inspiration for music in Cashion, Oklahoma, Kay has released her first EP I Think I’m Lost, My Love (out now through Strangelove). Tracks like ‘Where I Sleep’, ‘Mountain Man’ and ‘Frozen’ show Kay’s range from haunting ballad to folk infused denunciations of past lovers.

Don’t miss a night of soul-enriching sounds and a beautiful tapestry of songwriting from the incredibly talented Roo Panes! Tickets in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane go on sale next Wednesday 18 January, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Port Fairy Folk Festival performances on sale now and selling fast.
