Michael Franti - Solo Accoustic Tour

Date Venue Status
Mon 21 Feb, 2005 Manning Bar - Sydney University, Sydney
Thu 24 Feb, 2005 Prince of Wales, Melbourne

People, get ready. One of Australia's favourite musicians is returning to town. It brings The Frontier Touring Company great pleasure to announce the solo acoustic tour of Mr Michael Franti. Down-under for the Melbourne Music Festival, Franti will play a series of solo sideshows at intimate venues in Sydney and Melbourne later this month.

A born performer, Franti has a long affinity with Australian audiences, playing sold-out shows to scores of happy crowds year in and year out. His last album, Everyone Deserves Music (Liberation, 2003), recorded with band Spearhead, was embraced by the nation, storming up the ARIA Chart to a Top 10 position and securing 17 th spot on the Urban Chart for the year 2003. His single of the same name, a favourite for national broadcaster Triple J, made the difficult transition to commercial radio, helping Michael Franti and Spearhead's album notch up gold sales nationally, and affording them with the success they clearly deserve.

The shows coincide with the release of a new limited edition CD, Love Kamikaze: The Lost Sex Singles, which features six previously unreleased Franti/Spearhead tracks. The acoustic format of the shows will strip the showcased songs to their rawest, giving audiences the opportunity to fully appreciate the magic and meaning of Franti’s confronting lyrics.

Setting the mood for the evening will be Melbourne band, Custom Kings. Part folk, jazz, blues, reggae and hip-hop, Custom Kings have secured a strong following since leaping to public consciousness at last years Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, where they made their live performance debut. Having now played alongside some of music's biggest names, including The Beautiful Girls, Grant Lee Phillips and John Butler Trio, and with an EP Where Do They Go? under their belt, Custom Kings are sure to provide the perfect start to what is sure to be an incredible evening.

If you want to get up close and personal with both these killer acts, be sure to get your tickets quick, because if past shows are anything to go by, they will sell out in a flash!
