AND JUST CONFIRMED RED RIDERS

Get ready Australasia – Glasgow indie-rockers Franz Ferdinand are heading down-under! That's right, thanks to The Frontier Touring Company, the band that made NME's "Hot List" for 2004 is set to play a series of gigs in our very own backyard.

Named after the Archduke whose assassination sparked World War I, Franz Ferdinand had its beginnings in late 2001, when lead vocalist Alex Kapranos convinced Bob Hardy, a then student at Glasgow School of Art, to learn bass guitar. The duo planned a band and recruited two more musicians, guitarist/vocalist Nick McCarthy and drummer Paul Thomson.

The quartet played their first gig in a teenage girl's bedroom, their next in an old art -deco warehouse christened "The Chateau"and some more at an abandoned Victorian courtroom and jail. At all these gigs, the group achieved their core mission – to make music that girls could dance to. People were on their feet left, right and centre.

Franz Ferdinand have come a long way since those days. They have won critical acclaim in the US and Britain, and are being compared to popular new-wave acts The Strokes and Interpol. NME describe them as "the great British song and dance band of 2004", predicting that in"a year and a half from now, important British bands of their generation."

Their newly released self-titled debut album (Franz Ferdinand out now through Sony) is receiving rave reviews worldwide and impressively debuted in Australia at number 12. British magazine Uncut urges all music-lovers to "leap aboard" the Franz bandwagon, who are "firing on all synapses, if you please." Similarly, The Age claims that "if this superb debut is any indication, they'll be a must - see live proposition when they tour in July."

Without a doubt, the Glasgow quartet is destined to become one of the great bands of the future. So, bearing this in mind, Frontier Touring wish to advise that if you want to experience Franz Ferdinand's quality pop-rock sound first hand and dance till you drop, then you'd better snap up tickets to the gigs listed below as soon as possible!
